Reflective learning is the learning process via reflection. It is the conscious way which determines the way in which the individual thinks and analyses a particular situation in which they are present or involved which leads to reflective practice. In other words it can be said that reflexive learning is the process of exploring the princess of an individual for the purpose of making the human being more aware of their activities. This form of learning involves various experiences of an individual along with their beliefs, values, attitudes, fears and assumptions. This essay will include a model as the process of describing reflection and the reflexive approach to learning. With the help of the Gibbs model, I have been able to understand this module in a better way along with the concept that has been helpful for me in my academic success.

Main Body

Reflection can be defined as a constant introspection of an individual that each of them put into practice that helps them in the process of their personal growth. Reflection can occur before or after carrying out certain activities for analysing the experiences of an individual in their past. Reflective learning is the process of identifying and exploring the various experiences of an individual that makes it easier for them to be aware of their activities and actions that they perform (Chang, 2019). Reflective learning involves the experiences of an individual along with their attitudes, values, beliefs, assumptions and fears. With the help of Gibbs cycle, An individual is able to reflect on the experiences and learn from those in a much better way. When an individual reflects on their own situations and actions, it can help them in making sense of the situation they are in and having a better awareness of what they are supposed to do in the future. Gibbs model has five stages with help of an individual in analysing a particular situation. The step by step method has been given below.

Step 1: Description

This is the step where a person usually needs to describe the situation in a detailed manner. at this stage, the person should be concerned about what has happened to come to a conclusion later

Step 2: Feelings

At this stage, the individual needs to be encouraged to talk more about what he was thinking and felt during the experience. At this stage nobody should jump onto commenting on emotions that he/she has encountered (Wain, 2017).

Step 3: Evaluation

At which stage, the person needs to work on the approaches objectively and understand which one of them worked and which ones did not.

Step 4: Conclusions

Once after having and forming an evaluation of the situation, the individual can easily draw a conclusion on the basis of his or her analysis. At this stage, the individual needs to be encouraged to think about the situation that they have encountered with the information that they have been able to collect so far.

Step 5: Action

At this stage, the individual has a better understanding of how to act and deal with the same kind of situation later in the future in a more effective way (Adeani et al., 2020). Once the areas have been worked on, it is required for the individual to commit into taking actions that are required and appropriate.

Feedback is the process in which an individual receives information about the way they are performing in the current situation. Whereas, feed forward can be termed as the reverse exercise of feedback. It can be defined as a process in which the positive or negative feedback can be replaced with solutions that are more or less future oriented. Gibbs model has been helpful in understanding the approach to feedback at the specifying stage. This helps them to engage and reflect back on the feedback they have received at the reflecting stage. This model has been helpful in implementing the feed-forward approach that has provided opportunities for growth in the most effective way. It has helped in regenerating talent along with expanding the various possibilities that one can work on. Feed forward is very specific in nature and is an authentic and effective approach where the person critically absorbs information and reflects back upon it. This also puts them at ease so that they can find solutions and manage the positive and negative feelings they have encountered in a situation.

Gibbs model has enabled the individuals receiving feedback and feed forward which has opened up more opportunities and Pathways for individuals receiving feedback from their peers. As feed forward is proactive in nature, it helps in identifying any loopholes and describes a change which is appropriate to address the issue. It can be said that the proactive nature of a feed forward is the contributing factor that has helped in minimising and eliminating the negative effect of a disturbance which is known to others (Zhang et al., 2017). Feed forward has been able to assess and implement appropriate countermeasures that are helpful in addressing the problem and has contributed in understanding and generating talented individuals. It is very much particular on time as one the disturbance is identified; it automatically starts generating appropriate measures to stop the harm. it helps in nullifying the negative effects in impact of a situation in the mind of the individual. Gibbs model has been helpful in addressing and informing the feedback process along with expanding the possibilities instead of simply pointing out the problems. Both feedback and feedback have been helpful in improving the performance of individuals and making the individuals more creative and inefficient to perform the job in a particular situation (Zamir et al., 2017). With the help of the Gibbs model, these individuals have been able to reflect on the experiences and focus on feed-forward approaches to better their actions.

It has been showcased that it is very important for the students to be actively involved in the process of learning as well as understanding the various goals and purposes of feedback procedure. It has been seen that it is very important that feedback is in linked with the various assessments criteria with the students in terms of both formative and summative. The goal of summative assessment is to evaluate the learning of the students at the end of the instructional unit by keeping comparison points. Summative assessments have high stakes and are often treated by the student more prior than the formative assessment (Dixson and Worrell, 2016). With the help of the reflexive model, an individual will be able to identify their strengths and weaknesses along with having the potential of improving their skills which are self-regulatory. Self-reflection helps them in analysing their weaknesses and working on it so that the faculties can also provide support and help to the individuals. With the help of Gibbs model, an individual will be able to work in a highly effective and risk-free environment provided by the formative assessment (Dolin et al., 2018). Students will be able to identify their strengths and weaknesses, it would be helpful for the Teachers to understand the gap in their knowledge and help them through it. It is a very well-known concept that summative assessment will help the facility to collaborate and improve the methods of teaching so that the students are being able to understand or grasp the concept of knowledge been given out by the teachers (Iliya, 2014).With the help of summative assessments the teachers would be able to improve the curriculum and help the students in Planning along with identifying the gap so that the curriculum can identify the essential learning gaps. This can be done when the summative assessment helps in identifying the gap between knowledge and learning target.

Conclusion

To conclude, this essay has been able to successfully address all the requirements of the reflective learning approach to enhance learning. It has been able to evaluate the model of reflection, Gibbs model, for the purpose of understanding the importance of feedback and the feed forward process. It has also helps in describing the model in a details form where all the step and analyses have been made so that the individuals do not have a problem in understanding how the model works in reflective learning process. It is also helps in understanding the ways in which formative and summative assessment has been helpful in improving their activities. This module has been helpful in understanding the various organisational environments and how reflective learning help in enhancing the operational efficiency of the individual and contribute to their personal and professional goal attainment. When an individual reflects on their own situations and actions, it can help them in making sense of the situation they are in and having a better awareness of what they are supposed to do in the future.
