Vision Statement

With the evaluation it is evident that there are many different servant leaders who wish to serve first. There are so many servant leaders who have set examples of how a good leader should be (Keith, 2023). One of best example for servant leader is Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi also known as Mahatma Gandhi, he had given many contributions in independence of India from British raj. He led the nonviolent approach for independence and later inspired the whole world. He was a leader with high values and leadership skills which people should consider for becoming a good leader and that can lead through the journey of change. There are many lessons and principle given by Mahatma Gandhi which people should follow in order to set values and serve the people for their betterment and growth.

One of the qualities of Mahatma Gandhi was, admitting and taking responsibility of action and learning from mistake because leader should always be responsible (8 Leadership Qualities of Mahatma Gandhi, 2023). Moreover leaders should always be selfless so the followers also follow through the path of simplicity because it is the key of happiness. Another lesson is truthfulness which increases the trust between leader and follower. As mahatma Gandhi always believes in long term goals and planning because a leader leads the path so they should always have clarity relating to future step and action. Lastly, “relate to the people” is another skill necessary for being a leader because servant leader never put them first rather listens to others and have empathy toward the follower.

Self-Leadership

Self leadership is defined as the ability of the person to influence and direct own thoughts and to follow the strategies provided for attainment of common goals. Self leadership is same as leadership but the only difference is that it includes motivating and guiding yourself and not others. The self-leadership includes the involvement of following aspects-

  • Self-awareness: Self-awareness techniques are very important for development and awareness of thoughts and intension. Some techniques of self awareness include emotional awareness. Managing own emotion is the first step of self awareness as it is very important at the time of addressing people and social gathering. Being emotionally intelligent can have huge impact on the communication skill as well (Bracht, et. al, 2021). A clear understanding of own strength, weakness, threats and opportunity is essential for personal growth and development. These techniques include acceptance of flaws, adaptability of new things and being honest. A person should have a quality of making their imperfection as opportunity of growth and development. A person can never become good leader without confidence, it is very important in being able to express thoughts and ideas in front of many people. Moreover it needs to have belief on themselves in other words they need to have self confidence.
  • Self management: it is an ability by which an individual can manage themselves like their emotions, thoughts, behaviour and goals including both personal and professional. Some techniques with help of which person can work on self management includes self leadership. It is an ability to manage oneself by taking initiatives for being active and making choices in order to make good decision, long term plan and goals (Pandey, et. al, 2019). It will help them to learn how to deal with problems and issues.

Being able to deal with stress and maintain a mental stability is known as resilience which is one of the most important techniques of self management. It is a technique which helps an individual to be good leader and lead any change into practice. Resilience is not just a technique but a skill which is developed over time and gives a person more strength to deal with ups and down. At last optimism is a kind of hope which helps a person to be more positive toward their future goals, reduce stress and helps to cope with daily challenges. For becoming a good leader it is very necessary that the person possess optimistic perspective so that they can deal with any situation easily and effectively.

Developmental Goals

With the above evaluation it is clear that for becoming a good leader there are many different things which need to be adapted by the person. There are some development goals which can implement aligned with individual values, legacy and values like:

  • Truthfulness: in other words honesty and transparency toward people and oneself it increases the trust between leader and follower or team. Being transparent helps leader to guide them more effectively as they will have nothing to hide (Sparks, 2020). So the team could build trust and their whole dependency toward the leader without any worry. At the same time the team will respect the leader and get influenced by them as well.
  • Relate with people: it is kind of skill which is very important in order to become a good leader with empathy. It is very difficult to relate with all team without open conversation with everyone. Moreover open conversations help the leader to understand their point of view and bring the concern up front. Along with this, it is a two way communication as it will help the leader in understanding others and try to make others understand the requirement of leader.
  • Confidence: confidence is very important while addressing the team or group of people in order to influence them to work for attaining a common objective. The confidence is required by the leader in every situation whether they have to communicate with team or convince them for agreeing to something (Olanrewaju et. al., 2019). It also entrust belief and motivation in team which result in more productivity while implementing the idea.
